Financial Accountant - Insurance / Surety (Permanent)

Are you a strong part-qualified or newly-qualified accountant looking for a role where you can actually see the impact of your work day-to-day?
We're hiring a Senior Financial Accountant for a specialist insurance / surety provider working with construction clients across Ireland, the UK and Europe. You'll join a small, experienced team, supporting a growing business that partners closely with brokers and underwriters.
This is a great move for someone coming from financial services / insurance or a Top 10 practice who wants a broader, hands-on industry role.
The role
Reporting as part of a tight-knit finance team, you'll take ownership of day-to-day and month-end accounting, including:
- Full financial accounting: general ledger ownership and month-end close
- Bank reconciliations (weekly) and cashflow monitoring
- Accounts receivable and accounts payable, including payroll payment processing
- Insurance transaction processing in Sage and extraction of TB to management accounts
- Monthly bordereaux reconciliations
- Comprehensive invoice processing and tracking (sales and purchase)
- Monthly management accounts preparation and reporting
- VAT / VIES returns, revenue recognition and monthly accruals
- Generating and distributing financial reports for management
- Liaising with auditors, brokers and other external stakeholders as required
You'll also pitch in with general admin when needed - it's a small, collaborative team where everyone helps each other.
About you
We're looking for someone who is confident taking ownership, but still keen to learn and grow.
- Part-qualified or newly-qualified accountant (ACCA / ACA / CIMA or equivalent)
- Experience in insurance or a regulated financial services environment or
solid grounding from a Top 10 accountancy firm - Comfortable managing the general ledger and month-end process
- Experience with computerised accounting systems - Sage experience is a strong advantage
- Strong Excel skills; good working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint
- High attention to detail, strong numerical and analytical skills
- Ambitious, able to work on your own initiative in a small team
- Flexible, pragmatic and service-minded, with a bright, positive outlook
Package & working pattern
- Salary: €50,000-€55,000 (DOE)
- Pension: 10% employer pension contribution
- Health: Reimbursement of health cover up to €1,000 per year
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm
- Location: Central Dublin - hybrid, typically four days in the office and one day from home.
